Uliana Certan
Early-career professional, eager to
advance an impactful career
About ME
As a triple major graduate from Brandeis University, I specialize in three complementary disciplines: international relations, political science, and economics. I focused my education on international security, institutional analysis, and international political economy (IPE), rounding out my specializations with a year-long program at the London School of Economics and Political Science in London.
My main professional objective is to fully direct my career toward the most pressing needs and problems that I am prepared and qualified to confront. I am interested in approaches to international security; global cooperation; global catastrophic risks; the role and efficiency of institutions in international politics; governmental and organizational transparency; human rights; social justice; and intentional, sustainable living. I value and apply various IR theories to my analyses, I am a member of the EA community, and I am a recent but enthusiastic subscriber to longtermism.
Tenacious, organized, creative
Analytical, resourceful, eagle-eyed
Practical, highly intuitive, self-aware
My husband and I are moving to London, UK for several years (from the US East Coast). I look forward to connecting with various communities in my interest spheres, developing my career, reading (constantly), walking our rescue Cat Girl, growing an indoor jungle, traveling, continuing my side business as an art gallerist, and sharing good coffee with inspiring friends and colleagues.
"To make our way, we must have firm resolve, persistence, tenacity."
Ralph Bunche
My Personality and Work Style
I have strong attention to detail, a commitment to distinction, and a powerful drive. I strive to produce excellent work that addresses an original and pertinent question, follows a dependable and disciplined progression, and benefits from collaboration.
My goal-oriented work style is sustained by a multilateral organization system, an ever-evolving master plan (subject to daily revision and adaptation), and pragmatism. I haven't yet determined which I can live without - pen and paper or digital planning - so I do both. My seemingly rigid approach actually enables me to be flexible, adaptable, & efficient.
I am a cooperative team member but I have also proven my competence working independently, taking initiative and responsibility when my expertise is pertinent. I enjoy being challenged and I appreciate an open and energetic environment with free-flowing feedback and mentorship. I am excited to learn and grow as part of every team that I join, and I thrive in a culture of reciprocal transparency and constructive advice.
